There are many talented staff and volunteers at Grey Roots Museum and Archives. Our departments include: Collections; Archives; Visitor Services; Facilities & Maintenance; Community Relations; Administration and Heritage Interpretation. Of all these functions and departments, the one most often misunderstood is Heritage Interpretation.
First of all, what is it?
“Interpretation is a communication process, designed to reveal meanings and relationships of our cultural and natural heritage, through involvement with objects, artefacts, landscapes and sites.” Interpretation Canada
Why do we do it?
Heritage Interpretation promotes, inspires interest, and educates the public, to create an understanding and appreciation of the history and cultural import of the County of Grey and areas outside its borders.
How do we do that?
- We research and book traveling exhibits.
- We research and develop in-house exhibits.
- We design and implement membership and volunteer programs.
- We provide educational programs for school children, families and other groups.
- We provide the interpretation and activities in Moreston Heritage Village.
- We develop and deliver Grey Roots KidsCamp (Marchbreak and summer).
- We develop and deliver special events such as Spoke & Bustle, Pratie Oaten, Sydenham School Fall Fair, Moreston by Candlelight and all exhibit openings.
- We participate in community events such as Black History Month and Tom Thomson Days.
